Social entertainment is on the rise

According to a new report from Netpop Research,  ”Media Shifts to Social,” the percent of time people spend communicating online has increased 18% since 2006, while time spent on entertainment has declined 29%.

Online entertainment is shifting to a small, powerful proportion of social media contributors fueling Web activity through blogs micro-blogs, social media, video and photo sharing.

So, this is cool for a number of reasons – it is the second time that amex appear to have got the whole social media thing nicely right in being interesting and useful (if it can be done for a credit card . . . ); the article here contains some simple good advice; and actually the whole site is just kind of nice (if you allow for the americanisms)

the future of vending ? “the consumer benefits because they have an interaction with a coca-cola machine” is a rather large overclaim about how much joy coca-cola machines can bring to one’s life, but its nice technology . . .

this is just a really nice way of visualising something quite interesting – the growth of walmart in the US (and potentially the death of the local store . . . )

the french appear to have a novel way of underpinning their newspaper industry – instead of letting it compete with other media they are going to underwrite it (looks like a media bail-out to me)
